Larsen and Toubro (L&T) is one of the biggest Engineering companies in India. It is one of the largest companies in India and has bagged many government contracts. Apart from Engineering and Construction projects for which it is primarily known, it is also among worlds biggest Heavy Engineering giants. The name is derived from its two founders, Danish born citizens who settled down in India. Its headquarters are in Powai, Mumbai (Bombay).

It is India’s largest engineering and construction conglomerate with additional interests in IT and electrical & electronics business. A strong, customer-focused approach and the constant quest for top-class quality have enabled the Company to attain and sustain leadership position for over six decades.

L&T has pioneered spectacular achievements in Indian industry. Many of the engineering projects executed by L&T have set new benchmarks in terms of scale, sophistication and speed. So do many buildings, highways, bridges and civil structures around the country which are widely regarded as landmarks.

One of the important events that took place in the recent past is the demerger of Cement Division. In line with its policy of aligning capabilities to meet emerging trends, L&T initiated a mega-transformation process internally. This will ensure that the Company rapidly emerges as a knowledge-based, premium conglomerate with a global reach.

The company has in the recent past diversified its operations to include various new sectors too. For instance a new off-shoot is Larsen & Toubro Infotech Limited.

L&T is lead by A.M.Naik who is the Chairman and Managing Director of the company.
